Banana and Chia Bread

If you need a little sweetness in your life, this is a great recipe. It has chia seeds and nuts for extra protein and olive oil and chia for healthy omega three fats. Add to that the fibre of wholemeal flour, nuts and bananas and it's a great combination!

Beanie Brownies

Adding beans and dates to a sweet treat and cutting out the sugar makes it higher in fibre. Dark chocolate and cocoa add antioxidants and suddenly brownies seem almost healthy!

Small changes such as using oil instead of butter and swapping dark for milk chocolate can make a favourite recipe healthier. You could try cutting down sugar a little further or substitute more wholemeal for plain flour.

This cake is moist yet light. It contains no flour or butter and very little sugar. Dark chocolate, almonds and oranges  give it plenty of 'more' appeal! Lovely with a black coffee.

Low in sugar and high in fibre, these bars are equally good warm as a dessert or in the lunch box or as an afternoon tea treat. The nuts, apples and dates add valuable fibre and vitamins to a baked treat.

Carrot and Pineapple Muffins

These are great for lunch boxes or afternoon tea. They taste a lot like carrot cake (which essentially they are!). No need to add the cream cheese icing unless its a special occasion. They'll travel better without it too.

Chocolate Beetroot Cake

The beetroot makes this cake moist and it has a dark reddy brown colour. You can substitute various oils, and ice with the avocado icing or just a simple chocolate and cream ganache. Beetroot is an antioxidant and has sports performance benefits so get this into you before a cycle ride or a run!

Chilli Corn Bread

An interesting change with a meal- home made 'bread' based on corn and polenta mainly. It has a lovely sweet corn flavour with a little burst of chilli warmth. Really easy to make too.
